American Indian Youth Running Strong
(aka) Christian Relief Services Charities
Raising standard of living, self-esteem of Native American children. Providing relief, development to Indian Reservations. Teaching traditional life skills, healthy lifestyles, respect for Mother Earth.
At only 15 years old, Ronnie Godfrey (Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux) is the youngest member of Running Strong for American Indian Youth® Dreamstarter™, but that didn't prevent him of realizing his dream this year - and more.
"Even though my initial "Weights for Wellness" project would be coming to an end, it has generated an even bigger project for my community," Ronnie said.
Ronnie's dream was to provide a place with safe workout equipment which could be used for all the members of his community.
And the high school freshman had the perfect location, an empty classroom at Summit High School in Summit, South Dakota, which was also his mentoring organization.
Ronnie just told us that he had just completed the last of his community wellness classes in the small classroom which had been transformed into a fitness room which was utilized throughout the year by many students, school staff and members of the community.
"Throughout the year people enjoyed working out in our small room," he told us. "But they noticed how much of a need there was for a larger facility.
"And this is where my dream grew bigger with the help of the school board and community. We are now building a brand new community wellness room attached to the school this spring and it will be open to all community members."
Ronnie said it was rewarding for him to see the community jump on board and care about wellness.
